We’re about meeting new people, making friends, and getting the most out of your time here at uni…

Science Students’ Society is a student organisation affiliated with both the Melbourne University Student Union (MUSU) and the Faculty of Science. It is run by a committee of current Melbourne University students from a variety of faculties. The committee, including six executives and a further ten general members, is re-elected annually by the members of that year, and must consist of at least five first year students. Our member-base consists of over 2500 undergraduate, post-graduate and past students, with over 1000 new members signed-up this year!

The SSS is a non-profit organisation, but runs off revenue generated by its own events. It is partially subsidised by Clubs and Societies at MUSU, and we greatly appreciate sponsorship and donations from large and small local businesses. The society continues to run successfully, but ALL money raised throughout the year is spent solely on future SSS services and events.

Our aim is to create a light-hearted supportive yet entertaining environment, in which we can provide a variety of helpful and informative student services, discounts to members, and study relief in the form of many popular events. Our main events include:

Orientation Camp:
Run by later-year and past SSS members, is open to around 250 first year students of any course. It is designed to introduce first years to fellow new students, form life-long friendships and most importantly, encourage participation in the social aspect of Melbourne Uni life.

River Cruise Party:
Our fastest selling event, taking up to 600 people on a memorable trip around the bay and Melbourne’s docks.

End of Exams Parties:
Held at the end of each exam period at nightclubs around Melbourne. Attracting up to 2000 members, parties are organised on nights when clubs are usually shut, giving us exclusive use of the venue and allowing us to arrange special drink deals. Gives students a chance to unwind after the exam period.

Science Ball:
The biggest event on the SSS calendar and by far the largest faculty ball at Melbourne University. Held at venues such as the Royal Exhibition Buildings, the growing popularity of this themed sell-out event has consistently attracted up to 1500 people, as well as local bands and entertainers.

BBQs, Pub and Trivia Nights:
Held fortnightly, and also on days before a university break. BBQs are provided free of charge to our members.
